ESTABLISHING PEOPLE IN GOD’S WORD SINCE 1970
Our passion is to help people discover Truth for themselves by using the Inductive Bible Study method. We strive to accomplish this by offering Inductive Bible Studies, Training Workshops, conferences, and events for men, women, and students.
Guest Blogger: It is my privilege to introduce you to our guest blogger, Mike Ashcraft. I’ve known Mike since he was in high school and have watched as God has taken him on a most amazing journey. An architect by schooling but a kingdom builder by calling, Mike is the Senior Pastor of Port City Church in Wilmington, NC. He and good friend Chris Kuhne (son of Sue Kuhne a long time Precept Trainer), planted the church with a handful of college students in 1999 and it has grown to an astounding 4,800 members and is still growing, although to Mike those are people, not numbers – BJ Lawson
Many young Christians ask the question How do I know God’s will for my life? Really, my question as a young believer was much simpler "What does God want me to do?" I wasn’t asking the question in terms of my life calling, I was thinking much smaller. I had in view my day to day life. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do today as a Christian!
Some things seemed obvious, I knew I needed to work on my marriage. I didn’t own a Bible, and didn’t know any verses or references but I was pretty sure divorce was a bad idea. That was actually the first conscious thought I remember having as a new believer, "I can’t get a divorce, I’m a Christian now!" Since I didn’t have a church background I am confident that was the Holy Spirit instantly at work in my brand new life. Lying also seemed like a bad idea, as did stealing or getting drunk. But, beyond those basics I was a little uncertain of what God wanted me to do.
I was getting ready for work the other morning and while brushing my teeth I turned toward the window and much to my delight there was the most spectacular sunrise I had ever seen! An absolutely gorgeous array of colors: pinks, blues, purples and even oranges exploded on the horizon.
January 22, 2013 marked the fortieth anniversary of the Roe V. Wade Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion. Since that date the estimates are that over 50,000,000 (50 million) children have been aborted. The exact numbers are impossible to know since abortion reporting is voluntary. But, most of the experts believe the 50 million number is close.
It was 1981. I sat in a church pew and heard a challenge that would forever enlarge the calling God has placed on my life. The truths exposed to me were demanding actions that would stop the killing of unborn children through abortion, and to compassionately offer Jesus as the solution to an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.
This past week two great men of God passed away. You did not hear about them on the news either local or national, flags weren’t lowered on public buildings, but they were men who made a huge impact on the world.
Divorce, drugs, disasters, disease, and death surround us. Deep depression is rampant among so many. Have you ever wondered how you can make a difference among the needs of so many hurting people? There’s an answer to the pain and suffering that many are experiencing.
Jesus says, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).
Remember playing hide and seek as a kid? The games could go on for hours. You didn’t want to be found, at least not right away, but you wanted them looking for you. It was “Look for me! Look for me! But, don’t find me too quickly.”
Have you ever asked yourself, “What is it that God really wants from me?” If you have you are not alone. It is an age old question.
It’s that time when many people are making resolutions, setting goals, for the New Year. You may be one of them.
